Today we will get creative and build a little friend...
Materials:
YouTube, glue (preferably hot glue), tin cans, bottle caps and any other recyclables or odds and ends you might want to add (such as wire, screws, yarn, bolts, and all of those extra parts from the last piece of Ikea furniture you put together;)
Main Learning Outcomes:
Developing fine motor skills, creativity and early literacy skills.
Steps:
(1) First, gather together with your child to read the story, “Clink” by Kelly DiPucchio. If you don’t have the book at home, you can listen to it by following this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lzKVWg2sRW4
(2) Let your child explore the recycling bin and maybe the garage to find items that they may want to create with. Once they have a few items, ensure there are no sharp edges and that they are clean and let your child start creating. As they decide where to attach the parts, help them with the hot glue, or let them use the white/craft glue and hold each piece in place to dry. Once your child is all done, encourage them to name the robot! We look forward to hearing all of those awesome names!
Tips:
If you are low on tin cans and metal objects, try using small boxes, juice containers, or other objects.
