Active Start @ Home - 'Creative Owls!'

To finish off Earth month, we thought we’d dedicate a full week to activities made from recycled items and items from nature.

Materials:

YouTube, glue (preferably hot glue), string, tin cans, bottle caps and any other recyclables you might want to add.

Main Learning Outcomes:

Developing fine motor skills, creativity and early literacy skills.

Steps:

(1) First, cuddle up together with your kiddo to read the story, “Are You My Mother?”, by P.D. Eastman. If you don’t have the book at home, you can listen to it by following this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fRz7srE2K70

(2) Let your child raid the recycling bin to find items that they may want to create the bird with. Once they have a few, ensure that there are no sharp edges and that they are clean, and then let your child start creating! As they decide where to attach the parts, help them with the hot glue, or let them use the white/craft glue and hold each piece in place to dry. Once it is dry, attach a string and hang outside! Tips: To add some colour, feel free to add paper, paint or other decorations. We can’t wait to see your creations!
